Needs & Relief Efforts

Do you need help or know somebody who does? Report needs by registering at www.crisiscleanup.org. For more information on how you can assist with Hurricane Sally Relief efforts please contact Beth Allen for Local Response Efforts and Rev. Rebecca Rutherford for Regional Relief Efforts at the church office at 251-626-1334.  You can also contact Brenda in the Church Office at 251-626-1334 or by emailing ministries@spanishfortumc.org. The office will be “open for drop offs during normal church office hours.

** Need – Local Work Day Volunteers | There is a desperate need for volunteers for local work days | Dates TBD | We will be having community clean up workdays to help out those in our community that need assistance with yard clean up. We welcome individuals and families (including children) to join us pick up sticks and debris, rake, and clean yards. No special skills are needed, however, we do ask those helping to bring rakes and work gloves if they have them. We will meet in the Sanctuary parking lot (6690 Spanish Fort Blvd.) for deployment of small groups to homes mainly in the Eastern Shore area each day.

Please remember to wear closed-toed shoes and bring sunscreen and water to stay hydrated! Pre-registration is NOT required so if you find yourself available, just show up! Need – Supplies |Currently, we are in need of the following supplies to distribute through Marlow UMC: bleach | non-perishable foods (canned/boxed/ready-to-eat) | work crews | rakes | mops | tarps (16×20) or (20×30)

Please bring items to the Youth Area on the West Campus. You will need drop these items by between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Fridays, and from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Mondays or Wednesdays. Please contact the church office at 251-626-1334 before dropping off.

Need – Monetary Donations | If you would like to make a monetary donation through our church:

  • Checks – Simply make a check payable to SFUMC and note it for “Hurricane Sally Relief”.  You can drop them in the drop box slot by the church office doors or mail them into Spanish Fort United Methodist Church, 6530 Spanish Fort Blvd., Suite D, Spanish Fort, Al 36527.
  • Online Giving – You may donate directly online HERE.  Please mark the fund as “Missions” and mark the memo line as “Hurricane Sally Relief”.

**Need – Work Teams | There is a desperate need for work teams to help pass out water and cleaning supplies, as well as food distribution at Fairhope United Methodist Church and Marlow United Methodist Church. We also need assistance with cleaning out water damaged homes (tearing out sheet rock, cleaning out mud, etc.). Individuals can sign up on the crisiscleanup.org site or they can also call in a request at 1-800-451-1954. ERT Teams from many organizations will use this resource to find where to go.

Need – Lunch Team | We are working with Fairhope United Methodist Church to put together a team specifically to provide lunch from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday at Marlow United Methodist Church. If you would like to help with this, please let Rev. Rebecca Rutherford know or contact the church office.

Relief – Chainsaw Work | There are work crews out doing chainsaw work in Spanish Fort. Please contact Pastor Bill or Larry Davis if you can help or need help or you can contact the church office and we will connect you with him. Larry Davis is handling chainsaw/work crews through the Conference Disaster Response Team.

Need – Monetary Donations | We will begin identifying churches that have been impacted by the storm and will be looking for partner churches within our annual conference to spiritually and financially support them. Offering checks may be mailed to the conference office at the below address. Please write “Hurricane Sally Relief” in the memo line. We are grateful for our United Methodist connection during devastating times such as these.

Need – Cooking Teams | We have an urgent request for cook teams to help feed people on the coast this next week. We are looking for teams of 5-10 people willing to work Monday-Friday. We have housing available and can provide the food. Let us know if you are able to work a couple of days or even the entire week. Contact disasterresponse@awfumc.org if you are able to help.

**Desperate Need – Volunteers | You can contact Rev. Rebecca Rutherford in the SFUMC office at 251-626-1334 if you would like to be assigned a project through the district. We will be coordinating with Jennifer Myrick, the Director of Missions at Fairhope.

*These needs are immediate, so your quick response will help us collect resources and deploy people to where they are needed. Thank you for serving your neighbors, your community and your church. Our prayers are with our neighbors and all of those affected as they begin the recovery and relief process.
